Painting over mold may cover up the dark patches where the mold is growing, but it will not eliminate the problem.

Safety for working with mold if you have found mold in your home and you plan on remedying the issue yourself, you need to make sure to take the appropriate precautions. Paint will not kill mold or mildew, which means your problem will most likely worsen. It is better to give the wood surface at least three coats and to make sure that it covers the primer completely.

Clean the area using a good grade abrasive paper. It will continue to thrive and multiply right before your eyes, rendering your efforts utterly fruitless. Mold resistant paints work much like mold killing primers in that an antimicrobial is added to the paint that helps prevent future mold growth on your walls and ceilings.
